Frequently Asked Questions

General FAQ’s

The answer depends upon your end-use application. TRED-eXtra® is a high-density composite panel that is engineered and manufactured to be a cost-effective flooring panel that works well for foot traffic to heavy wheel loads. TRED-eXtra will not delaminate and is available unfinished or with our Nanotex Gray or ESD coating, which are the most durable in the industry.

TRED-eXtreme® panel combines a wood-fiber substrate with a High-Density Polyethylene laminate to give ultimate abrasion resistance and a 100% moisture barrier in addition to accommodating the heaviest wheel loads.

TRED-eXtra panels weigh approximately 3.4 pounds per square foot.

For panels being installed over corrugated, we recommend one screw per .625 square feet (20 screws on a 48” x 96” panel). Please see our detailed installation instructions on our Downloads Page.

Standard unit size is 34 pcs. Custom unit sizes are available if your project requires them.

TRED-eXtra Unifinished is the least expensive panel that is manufactured for material handling applications, period. It can be field-finished and still carries a 3,000 pound pallet jack rating and our lifetime warranty. TRED-eXtra Nanotex Gray coated has the beauty of a finished floor and is the most durable and scratch resistant coating available. TRED-eXtra Nanotex Gray ESD coated should be selected when Static control is required. When properly grounded, static charges are dissipated into the metal substructure; keeping sensitive electrical equipment safe and eliminating worker shocks.

TRED-eXtra comes standard with a 3,000 pound pallet jack capacity. If you have heavier loads, TRED-eXtreme can be engineered to accommodate them in most cases.

The standard panel size is 3/4” x 48” x 96”. We can cut panels to any size and manufacture TRED-eXtra up to 60” x 120” T&G 4E and 60” x 144” T&G 2LE.

All wood panels will expand and contract with changes in relative humidity. Expansion gaps are used to prevent the finished floor from buckling. TRED-eXtra is extremely dimensionally stable and requires only 1/16” expansion gap that “self-spaces” when installed. Our self-spacing T&G eliminates the need for panel spacers on Tongue and Groove joints.

TRED-eXtra comes standard with a Self-Spacing Tongue and Groove. Simply, this means that during installation, the panels are installed tightly together on T&G joints and the 1/16” expansion gap spaces itself.

TRED-eXtra is extremely easy to install. Please see our installation instructions for more information.

TRED-eXtra qualifies for various LEED credits. Please see detailed LEED information.

The standard test, used in the U.S. to evaluate flame spread characteristics of wood building materials, is ASTM E-84. Indices for tested materials can range from 0 to over 1000. Most wood-based materials have a flame spread index of less than 200 and a smoke developed index of less than 450, making them acceptable under current building codes for a wide range of interior uses.

TRED-eXtra panels fall within this category and as such have a flame spread and smoke developed index of Class C or III.

Valley shims are NOT required, however, when TRED-eXtra panel edges fall over a valley in the corrugated, there are two options; Trim the panel so that it lands on a rib, or use a valley shim. The valley shims can help to speed installation and will allow the continued use of the T&G joint.

TRED-eXtreme® FAQ’s

TRED-eXtreme® panel weight varies because it is a custom-made panel and there are so many variables for the thickness of the substrate and the thickness of the HDPE laminate. A typical 3/4” panel will weigh 2.5-2.8 pounds per square foot and a typical 1-1/8” panel will weigh 3.3-3.6 pounds per square foot.

TRED-eXtreme panels are available with substrates as thin as 1/8” and as thick as 1-1/2”. Typical nominal panel thicknesses are 3/4” and 1-1/8”.

The textures for TRED-eXtreme include Moroccan, Quadripple, Haircell, Cracked Ice and Smooth. Moroccan and Quadripple are the most commonly selected textures. Standard colors available are Gray, Beige, Black and White. Custom colors are available with minimum panel quantities.

The most common substrates are Unfinished TRED-eXtra, plywood and OSB. Plywood substrates can be preservative treated or fire-treated, if necessary, for your application.

TRED-eXtreme panels, with an unfinished TRED-eXtra susbstrate [>.050” HDPE laminate], are rated for 3,500 pound pallet jack loads.

TRED-eXtreme panels, with [>.100” Thick HDPE laminate], plywood or OSB substrates are rated for 2,860 pound pallet jack loads (Thinner laminates are not recommended for pallet jack usage).

The standard panel size is 3/4” x 48” x 96”. We can cut panels to any size and manufacture TRED-eXtreme up to 60” x 120” T&G 4E and 60” x 144” T&G 2LE.

Absolutely. TRED-eXtreme panels with a structural substrate (Plywood or OSB) can be installed directly to joists. Span rating tables are available by calling or e-mailing Affiliated Resources. Please consult local building codes before installation.

For panels being installed over corrugated, we recommend one screw per .625 square feet (20 screws on a 48” x 96” panel). For panels being installed directly to joists, we recommend fasteners at every joist. Please see our detailed installation instructions on our Downloads Page.
